Lakkidi is one of the highest areas in Wayanad and is arranged 700m above mean ocean level, on Thamarassery ghat pass. Vythiri is the neighboring town, 5km from Lakkidi. Chain tree, Pookot Lake and a sightseeing point are inside five km of Lakkidi. It is around 58 km upper east of Kozhikode area. Three km from Lakkidi is Pookot Lake, a typical freshwater lake spread crosswise over 15 sections of land. It is one of the rarest sources of water in Wayanad. Sultan Bathery is a town in the mountainous Wayanad district of Kerala, South India. Banasura Dam is the main earthen dam in the country and the second-largest in Asia. The view of the extensive reservoir from the top of the dam is breath-taking. Escapades like speed boating are readily available, and a trek up to the Banasura Peak is filled with streams, diverse flora, fauna, lush tropical green and majestic cascades. An earthen dam, also known as an embankment dam is created by placing mounds of earthen, sand, rock or soil. The view of Banasura Lake from the top of the knoll is mesmerising.

Constructed along the river of Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini river, this tourist hotspot is well upheld as a part of the Indian Banasura Sagar Project. It provides irrigation, drinking water and electricity to nearby places. The sprawling area of clear water is a photographer's dream, scattered with tiny islands and the view is unbelievable during monsoons. The knolls are named after 'Banasura', son of the famous ruler, King Mahabali. An ideal picnic spot, Banasura Dam is one the most attractive places not just in Kerela, but the complete country.

Chembra Peak

The Chembra peak offers a panoramic sight of not only the whole Wayanad district but also a large chunk of Kozhikode, Malappuram and Niligiri districts. The peak, its nearby lush foliage and the famed heart-shaped lake make it a paradise for travellers to travel.


The peak is well-known among explorers for providing an excellent one-day trekking experience which receipts about three hours. On one's way to the top, they are challenged with additional gift of wildlife in the form of a heart-shaped Lake which is believed to have not ever dried up and is a major tourist magnetism here. The peak can be touched by foot from Meppady. The view of the Banasura Sagar Dam is also mesmerising. The large dam stands out in the green blanket and seems to be a shiny silver metal disk sitting between the trees.
